Wyrdstone Road: Campaign Games 2,3 & 4

Hey all,
well we've just finished games 2,3 & 4 of our Mordheim campaign, in which (to my surprise) I won all 3 games, following failed route tests by my opponent. It went a little like this;

Building Mordheim: Buildings WIP 2

Hey all,
so today I bring a very brief update on my Mordheim blinding(s), so on with the pics;

Building Mordheim - Buildings WIP

Hey all,
today I bring another WIP update (seems like I have a lot of projects at the minuet!). Yesterday I started building scenery for my Mordheim board. I found some amazing examples on the interwebs, thoug I dont think mine will be quite that good! I'm going for the rough and haggard approach. It is the city of the damned and even before the meteor struck, I would have thought that maintenance wouldn't have been a super high priority in a medieval type fantasy town. So here are some pics!

A Tale Of Two Landraiders

Hi all
today i bring the WIP updates on two of my landraiders. Both were bought off eBay for very reasonable amounts as can be seen here. So after quite a while in the gaming cupboard, I dug them out a week or so a go and began work turning them into lean mean killing machines!

On The Wyrdstone Road: Mordheim

Hi all, well it has been a very long time since I posted anything really on here as I've just not found the time, or done anything which I note as being rather spectacular, but today I bring you a post about my friend and I's venture into Mordheim.

Kingdom Death Grandmother

Hi all.

Today I bring some pictures of the first of my Kingdom Death models that I've got round to painting. In this case it's the limited edition Grandmother. I was lucky enough to find it on Maelstrom Games a while back  before they shut down along with another of the general release models that I wanted.

So on with the pictures.

Lizardmen Skink Priest

Hi all.

Today I bring a few pictures of the Lizardmen Skink Priest I have been painting up. I loved the model enough that I knew I'd have to get it just to have a go at painting. Along with all the other stuff that came out for the Lizardmen I seriously considered starting a small army. However I remembered all the other stuff I still have to paint and thought better of it.

So lets get on with some pictures.

Zebulon's Birthday Present

Hi all.

It's been a while since there has been a post here on Sign of the Aquila. I've had a few projects on the go all at once and progress has been slow. However I have finished the most important one. As you've probably guessed from the title of the post it's Zebulon's birthday present.
This will also be the first time Zebulon has seen it and it's early haha.

So with out  further delay I present the Skaven Exalted Vermin Lord

 More pictures after the break.

Gloin the Dwarf

Hi all.

Just a quick post today with another completed dwarf from the Escape from Goblin Town starter set. This time its Gloin. I finished him at about the same time as the Emperor's Children Captain I posted yesterday.

Pursuit of Perfection: Emperor's Children Captain Finished

Hi all.

Been a while since anything was posted so today I thought I'd post my completed Emperor's Children Captain. I actually finished him a few weeks ago but just haven't had the time to post.

So lets get straight on with the finished model.

Zebulon vs Blackmane Painting Duel: Finished Models

Hi all

Today I bring pictures of the finished models that myself and Zebulon have painted up for our challenge. This post should have gone up on Thursday when our challenge finished but I think we were both a little busy so the post never got done.

As Zebulon explained in the last post this challenge was to paint a model chosen by the other from the range of plastic characters GW has been releasing. Zebulon chose the Empire Captain for me and I chose the Wight King for Zebulon. We were free to paint them up however we wanted.

First up my Empire Captain.

Zebulon vs Blackmane Painting Duel

Hi all,
Zebulon here putting up a quick post on myself and Blackmane's latest painting duel. Its been a fair while since we did one of these, I do believe the last one was the Island of Blood Elven Prince on Gryphonne, which was quite a while ago! Anyway we have decided to pick each others this time round from the new range of plastic heroes that GW is currently releasing.

After much thought I opted for the Empire Captain of the Empire for Blackmane

and he went for the Vampire Counts Wight King for me.

We have until next Sunday to complete the mini however we see fit then a poll opens after to determine the winner! Lets get to it!

Zebulon

Update. The end day for the challenge has now been shifted to Thursday the 4th of July.

Pursuit of Perfection: Emperor's Children Captain WIP 2

Hi all

Today I bring the 2nd WIP post on my Emperor's Children Captain. I haven't got a lot more done on him however I think he's really starting to look the part now so I thought I'd share the progress I've made.

As you can see half the grip and the pommel on his sword hilt have gone. Where it's gone I have no idea and actually didn't know it had been damaged until I came to take this picture. I can only assume it broke off when he got dropped a couple of days ago though how I didn't notice at the time is a mystery. I will have to find something to replace it.

Hunt the Fallen: Dark Angels Captain

Hi all

Today I just have a quick post of the Dark Vengeance Dark Angels Captain I've been painting up for a bit of fun.

I have to say I really do like this model. The detail on it is really good. Again GW showing just what they can achieve with plastic when they put their minds to it.

So on with the pictures!

Pursuit of Perfection: WIP Emperor's Children Test Model

Hi all

So my legion of choice is the Emperor's Children. Today I bring you the first WIP post and the progress of my first test model.

I also said in my last post (Into the Horus Heresy I Go) that I would briefly say why I had chosen this legion. I'll do this after the couple of pictures of the test model.

First the test model. I decided to use one of the master of the chapter as my test model for my Emperor's Children. Firstly he's wearing an appropriate mark of armour and secondly he has a great big aquila across his chest. Very fitting for the Emperor's Children I think. The only real change I made to the model was to sculpt hair onto the head as I didn't think a bald head really looked right. I have magnetised both the sword hand and the powerfist so that in furture I will be able to swap his weapons as and when I want. Essentially he'll be the jack of all weapons captain choice, having a wide selection of choices to fit what I feel I need him to do.

More after the break.

Into the Horus Heresy I Go

Hi all

Today's short post is all about my intention to start a Heresy themed army. Now this post has been coming for a while as I first got the idea to start a heresy army sometime before christmas. However despite getting the first of the FW Horus Heresy books I was still unsure as to whether I would actually start the army or if the idea was just a whim that would go away. I eventually got a model to start doing a test scheme on which has been WIP for a couple of months now. This is partly just due to limited painting time and wanting to paint other things in that limited time.

Now, however, I have taken the plunge and bought the start of my army. So far it consists of 3 ten man tac squads, a heavy weapon squad and an outrider squad. I have gone with the Mk IV style armour for the stuff I've bought so far as its the Mk I like the most and I think is most fitting for the legion I've chosen based on what I've read about them in the fluff. I will add a few other amour Mk's to the army over time just to add a bit of diversity.

As you've probably noticed I haven't actually said exactly which legion my army will be. This will be revealed when I put up the first WIP post of my test model. Hopefully this will be within the next few days. At the same time I'll explain why I have gone for the legion I have picked.

So I now want to just talk briefly about what guidelines I'll be trying to stick to for this army. Firstly  unit selections should remain as close to fluff as possible for the particular point in the Heresy from which I want my army to be. Secondly I want to build the army so that I can run it under the Heresy rules or using codex Space Marines. This may mean buying a few extra models to build certain weapon load outs that are only available to a legion list but I think it will be worth it if it gives me an army I can use without having to count certain heresy weapons as something else for normal 40k. I want everything to be clear as to what it is in terms of weapons. Thirdly, as much as possible, I will be trying to only use FW models for this army. The reason for this is I want to stick to the Heresy theme. However there may be certain exceptions to this. For example I'm not overly keen on the Heresy style Rhino and so may just use the standard plastic kit.

This is a project I'm really looking forward to even if it is going to take me a long time to do. However I want to really put the effort into every model I do for this army and make it look as good as I can make it. To do this I think I will have to work on one unit at a time until its finished before starting the next one. If I don't I know I will get sidetracked and units will end up only been half done for long periods of time and that's not what I want.

Well that's it for this post. As always thanks for taking the time to have a look and please feel free to leave and comments, be they good, bad or somewhere in between.

Minor Hobbit Hero's

Hi all.

Today I bring some pictures of minor hero's from the Hobbit range that I have been painting. They were all quite simple models to do and I'm quite happy with how they've turned out considering I wasn't putting a huge amount of effort into painting them. Essentially I was just aiming for slightly better than tabletop quality.

First up is the a Goblin Captain. I got this model because I have a load of Escape from Goblin Town goblins to paint and I decided I could do with an extra captain. I tried doing the skin a slightly different way to how I did the Goblin King's. I think I'm happier with how its turned out this time and I'll probably do all the other goblins in a similar way.

Flight of the Eagles

Hi all.

So its been a while since anything was posted at Sign of the Aquila. I think this is just due to myself and Zebulon been quite busy with stuff outside of the hobby for the last month. That's not to say we haven't done anything hobby related. Pictures have been going backwards and forwards between our phones quite regularly on projects we've been working on.

Today I bring a few pictures of some completed models. They're not the best pictures as I found them quite awkward to photograph.

First up there is the completed Gwahir model. This is the new finecast one that came out a couple of months ago. I think it a much nicer model than the original great eagle model for the Lord of the Rings range. Been finecast it was easy to assemble. The tail section wasn't the best fit but a little carving away of resin in certain places got it to sit better in its correct position.

The Hobbit: Balin and the Goblin King

Hi all

Today I bring a couple of models that I've just finished. From the title of the post I'm sure I don't really need to tell you what models I've been painting. I've been working on the Goblin King for the last couple of weeks doing a bit at a time as I've had the time. Balin I started at around 11 last night and had him almost finish by about 1 this morning.

Up first is Balin. I'm really happy with how he's turned out. He was a relatively simple model to paint as he's essentially all red. However doing him all the same shade of red would have looked a bit odd so while both share the same basecoat and wash they are highlighted differently. From the pictures I had of Balin his outer robe was darker while his inner robe was lighter a bit lighter in colour. For the inner robe I added orange to the mix to lighten it while the outer robe had a little grey added to it. His beard was just painted grey with white added over the top on the highest parts. As I said at the start I'm really happy with how he's turned out. These plastic characters from the Escape from Goblin Town box are all really nice and after painting Bilbo and Balin I can say I'm really looking forward to painting the rest of the Dwarves.

Little and Large : Hobbit and Trolls

Hi all

Today I bring a few pictures of some of the models I've recently finished painting. Been a Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fan I've really been liking the new models that have been coming out for The Hobbit. As a result I bought the Escape From Goblin Town box, making it the first starter box I have ever bought. Then they released the great eagles in plastic and new Gwahir. Then the Rivendell Knights were recently released and I had to have a box of those. I've been wanting  plastic eagles and old style Last Alliance elves on horses for ages. But for today its a mix of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

First up we have Bilbo Baggins from the Escape From Goblin Town set. I think its a really nice models with plenty of detail for a plastic figure. He was really easy to paint  and it only took me maybe an hour and a half in total. For the most part I'm happy wit how the model has turned out although I'm not happy with the blue tint I put on the sword. I also need to go back and do the eyes.

My eBay Haul

Hey all,
It's been a while since I really posted anything, so I thought I'd put up what I've been buying recently from eBay. Not really exciting admittedly, however it is an exceptionally good place for savings, given the annually increasing price from GW!

Fear the Skies: Dark Eldar Razorwing Jetfighter

Hi all

Today I bring a couple of pictures from my latest finished project. As you probably got from the title its my Dark Eldar Razorwing Jetfighter. Now I have to admit that its been a long time since I finished anything for my DE. I have pretty much all the models I want but just haven't got round to actually painting them. To try and fix this when I moved back down to Sheffield for my placement as part of University I only brought my DE with me thus forcing me to paint them as I hate gaming with unpainted models. And while progress has been slow it is progress none the less haha.

So with that lets look at the finished model.
