Dwarf - Skaven Showdown: My Thoughts

Hi all

Today I'm doing a post on my thoughts about the upcoming battle to the death between my heroic dwarves and Zebulon's nefarious skaven As I'm sure your aware this will be mine and Zebulon's first venture into the old world so getting first blood in a new system is obviously high on our priorities even though we're not really competative gamers by any means.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed But Always Blue!

Today I bring greeting from Macragge in the form of the power armoured version of Lord Calgar, I did this some months ago and fully intended to post it, but then the Tau seemed to get all the attention..... As much as I do like the new Calgar in his Termy armour, there's something I can't quite place that draws me to this model, which explains why I have two of them...

I Find Your Lack of Courage........Disturbing

 Hi all

Today I have some pictures of the newest memeber of the Tarnhelm 3rd. I decided that another commissar wouldn't go amiss in my army so I headed down to my local GW and got this guy.
Overall i am very happy with how he's turned out. I think my favourite part is the great big metal powerfist. You really don't want to mess with him (or disturb his reading). I'll come up with a backstory for him at some point. I think he'll be the senior but widely hated commissar of the regiment. I've decided the other two I have are of the opinion that its better to get the men to do things through positive actions and encouraging words, the gaunt/cain approach as I would call it. This guy is gonna be the complete opposite.

Skaven Army Project Log: Stormvermin Assemble!

Hey all,
today I bring pictures of my assembled Stormvermin. This is actually a very straightforward kit to assemble as there are only two main body stances to assemble, however, getting them to fit in a unit proved rather difficult, not only are there the halberds to contend with but also tails, bits of cloth, elbows etc etc, but having said that they do make for a rather individual unit and I wouldn't have them any other way...

Hi all

Just a quick post to say thankyou to everyone who has visted Sign of the Aquila because today we've reached the 10,000 views milestone so again thankyou very much for that. I hope you all keep coming back to continue to see what myself and Zebulon get up too.

I agree with what Blackmanes just said, I know 10,000 views might not seem much in the wider world of the internet, but for our little corner of the web I'm fairly chuffed, it's just nice to see people looking at what we're doing.

All the best and have a good day.

Hobby Drill #2 (multi-tool/grinder)

Hi all

So the other day I bought myself a Hobby Drill type thing. However after very little usage it seemed to develope a motor fault and lost a lot of its power and became very hoy if it ran for a minute. So  I had to take it back and get a replacement. And here it is.

Skaven Army Project Log: Stormvermin Front And Centre

Hey all,  just a quick post on my Skaven Stormvermin, haven't had much chance to build them yet, as work seems to be getting in the way a bit at the minuet, but today I managed to get the Fangleader, Musician and Banner Bearer built, and found the only suitable position to fit Queek in as I am learning the hard way that you need to build everything so that it fits together with the rest of the unit, true, I knew this before building the squad, but I never fully realised how difficult and frustrating it is to get it right, and make the unit look dynamic, for example the Fangleader was completely hidden behind the banner when I had it arranged originally, which diminished the impact of his stance, but anyway, that's sort of resolved now.

The full 20 man (or should that be rat?) unit will be built by the end of tomorrow, just in time for the arrival of my Clanrats... Also, it is worth noting that the current banner is only temporary as I intend to make on out of green stuff that acts as a Dwarf-Hide banner, which will be interchangeable with the current banner, god bless pinning...

Well that's all for now as I wade though the Stormvermin Box, more to be done later!

Hobby Drill (multi-tool/grinder)

Hi all

Today I bought my self a rotary tool kit. Its pretty much a dremal but without the high price tag. The main reason I got this is for use on my course when I'm in the workshop but it will no doubt prove useful for hobby stuff too.

Skaven Army Project Log: Stormvermin Arrival

Hey all,
well today I picked up the first unit for my Skaven army whilst I was in Sheffield, the menacing Stormvermin (which is strange since I wanted Clanrats). These will be the bodyguard for Queek, as he gives them +1 WS and +1 Strength for 4pts, at that cost it seems a fair deal, plus I really like the look of the minis, which is just as important to me!

This also has brought me to the conclusion to go with a Clan Mors themed army, not only will Queek fit in, but their fluff also intrigues me as it is Clan Mors who has control of the City of Pillars (aka Karak Eight-Peaks), and antagonising dwarfs is my main objective with this army, to represent that, they are going to be granted a Dwarf-Hide banner, giving them hatred of Dwarfs, and Dwarfs hatred of Skaven, perfect for drawing them in!

Tomorrow, I'm going to assemble the unit and get it sprayed. The Horned Rat will be pleased!

Painting Uruk-Hai

Well with my new found drive for both Skaven and Lord of the Rings, I thought I'd share how I do my Uruk's. They're probably the simplest of Middle-Earth's creatures to paint as it is based around only two major colours really.

The Fall of Corian IV - Information and Mission 1- First Landing

Hi all

Today and for the next 9 days I will be posting the missions which I wrote for a campiagn called The Fall of Corian IV. The missions themselves have unfortunately not been played by myself or Zebulon so I can't say that they will be 100% balenced. As for fairness that isn't guarenteed either as the mission were written with an attcking force trying to regain a planet and so certain advantages and disadvantages were added in. Hopefully they will play well enough. They are designed to be played in sequence though  I'm sure they would work fine as stand alone missions. Carry on reading to find Introduction and Mission 1 - First Landing.

The Skaven Invasion: Painting Queek Headtaker Part 4

Hey all,
well today I bring you the final part of my guide to painting Queek Headtaker, which really was just his trophy rack and touching up the base.
